Destiny Wiki Guide

The only way to reach Oryx is to become like he is, or like his now dead son. Follow in the wake of Crota's demise and become Ascendant.

Head back into the Chamber of Night to where Crota's Soul once resided in the Summoning Crystal. Head down through the World's Grave and into the Chamber of Night. The Hive will play host as your welcoming ceremony. Destroy them to get to your destination.

A few Thralls are feeding on your way. Feel free to dispose of them as you wish, but a stealth melee should suffice. No need to waste ammo on them. However, there is a large group of them in the large area ahead, so those will need to be taken down through more traditional means.

The remains of the Crystal are guarded by Baxx, the Gravekeeper. It's not too difficult of a fight, but it will be interrupted by Oryx, just like the Centurion from before. Quickly grab a shard of the Crystal and return to Eris.

You're no match for the swarm of enemies, especially not the Taken Baxx, Hand of Oryx. Run. Make a mad dash back the way you came. Fight enemies at your own risk, but your primary goal is to get out alive.

The Taken have locked the exit from the World's Grave. On the right ledge, there's a relic. After clearing out the Taken, grab it and use it to unlock the door. Once more, after you've entered the next area. Clear out the enemies and then use the relic to open the door. This time it is located on a high level from the door you go through. However, the door will still be locked. It has a secondary lock on it. Head down to the right to find the second relic.

Ascend the steps and reach the Temple of Crota. This time the door has three locks, but that's not the biggest issue. There are multiple Taken Captains in this room. They can use very powerful blast attacks that aren't stopped by any form of matter. Dodge them when you can. While they may not do massive damage, they blind you and make you vulnerable for a time.

One relic is located where you entered from, another on the other side of the Hive Seeder, and the last past the door you're trying to unlock behind a small wall. Either fight or run, the choice is yours. Just make your way out of the Temple of Crota.

Daily Heroic

The Daily Heroic version of this mission comes with a bonus section. Before leaving the area with a Hive Seeder as you're running away in the second half of the mission (after the Taken version of Baxx spawned in), you'll open a door with a single relic and then another door with two. After opening the second, another door (leading to the Fallen Ketch) will open in the distance. You can hear it do so from where you are. When facing the exit which required two relics to open, turn right and head to where you fought Taniks in The Shadow ThiefStrike. Go up the gravity lift and walk through the hallway until you reach Traitor's Ketch area. Face off against the Taken. You'll have ten minutes to defeat all of them throught this section and it's going to be difficult at times.

Proceed through the Ketch as quickly as you can, killing all Taken you see. You'll face off against Driviks, the Chosen in the end. While Driviks is the primary objective, make sure you take out the Blights in the room to reduce the amount of Taken which spawn in. However, you should still kill Driviks first due to his powerful attacks and since enemies will continue to spawn as long as he's alive. Three Guardians focusing just on Driviks or two on Driviks and one on the other enemies and Blights can speed up this process. This section is recommended to be Light Level 240+, but being upwards of 280+ is a safer choice if possible.

All members of the fireteam (given that it's their first time completing the Daily mission) will be rewarded with Black Spindle.

Destiny 2 Monument to Lost Lights: All Exotics Ranked & Costs

With the release of the Beyond Light expansion late last year, Bungie removed entire Planets, quests, and activities from the game.

Everything was put into the Destiny Content Vault (DCV), and as a result, several Exotic quests required to earn some of the best Exotic weapons were removed too.

Luckily, Bungie was quick to react and created a new system to earn those weapons: The Monument to Lost Lights.

Monument to Lost Lights Exotics list: What to get

Located at the Tower, the Monument to Lost Lights is a vendor that sells all the Exotics and Pinnacle weapons that can no longer be earned elsewhere in the game due to the removal of their original quests. Costs are high, though, requiring rare resources such as Exotic ciphers and Ascendant shards.

The list below features every Exotic offered by the Exotic kiosk and includes cost per weapon and Tier ranking to help you prioritize what weapon to get next (you can also filter and sort the list):

The Tier ranking above uses the following Tier levels:

  • S Tier – Best: Highest ranking weapons in our Tier List.
  • A Tier – Strong: Very strong weapons, but not on the same level as S Tier Choices.
  • B Tier – Average: Decent choices that can be lethal in the hands of a skilled player.
  • C Tier – Weak: The middle of the pack, somewhat mediocre.
  • D Tier – Worst: Lagging behind the competition, these don’t have much to offer.

Best Exotics

These are the best Exoticsweapons you can purchase from the Exotics archive:

  • Anarchy
  • Ace of Spades
  • Witherhoard
  • Eriana’s Vow

Note that as a former raid exotic, Anarchy requires Spoils of Conquest. More about costs and materials and below.

Location

The Monument to Lost Lights is located in the central area of the Tower, near the Gunsmith and right next to the Vault.

Here you can see the kiosk’s exact location:

Monument to Lost Lights Tower Destiny 2

The Monument to Lost Lights in the Tower

Other Exotic kiosk items

Despite being referred to as the Exotics kiosk, the Monument to Lost Lights has more to offer.

Legendary weapons

While Exotics are the main highlights offered by the Monument to Lost Lights, this kiosk also offers Legendary weapons. To be clear, most of its Legendary weapons were sunset and are no longer viable for endgame content.

The only exception is the incredibly good shotgun, Felwinter’s Lie, which can still be purchased there.

Monument to Lost Lights Destiny 2

Legendaries are offered within the “Legacy gear” section

Exotic armor

Unlike Exotic weapons, Exotic armor was not impacted by the removal of Planets and Quest last year. Therefore, you won’t find any armor at the Monument to Lost Lights.

Exotic Catalysts

As of today, Exotic catalysts whose quests were removed have not been added to the Exotics kiosk. Taking into account that both Outbreak Perfected and Whisper of the Worm were eventually added to the Monument to Lost Lights, it would make sense that their catalysts, which came from the very same quests, were added to the kiosk too.

For more information about Exotic catalysts, this guide covers them all, including their effects, how to find them, and how to unlock them.

Costs & Materials: Buying weapons from the Exotics archive

As mentioned before, these Exotics are quite expensive. Even if you’re a veteran with maxed-out glimmer and thousands of planetary resources, these weapons still require hard-to-find resources including Ascendant Shards and Exotic ciphers.

The table above includes the exact cost for every Exotic in the kiosk, but in a nutshell, this is how you can farm all the needed materials:

Exotic Cipher

Exotic Cipher Destiny 2Exotic Ciphers are perhaps the hardest material to “farm” in the sense that you are limited to one cipher at a time per account. Currently, the only 2 ways to acquire a cipher are via a weekly quest offered by Xur and the Season Pass.

Xur’s quest itself is not hard, just long (E.g. doing 21 strikes…). Xur appears every weekend on Friday. You can track him using this neat site.

Ascendant Shards

Ascendant Shard Destiny 2Ascendant Shards are extremely sought after because they are both valuable and hard to obtain.

They are valuable because they are needed to Masterwork armor, which means you’ll need at least 7 to Masterwork a single armor set (including an Exotic). In parallel, they are tough to farm for most players as they mostly drop from Nightfalls at high difficulties or 7 wins/flawless Trials of Osiris passages.

Spoils of Conquest

Spoils of Conquest Destiny 2This brand-new material was created entirely for the Monument to Lost Lights and is required to purchase Exotics previously locked behind Raid bosses. To earn this currency, you have to complete raid encounters, which means it cannot be endlessly farmed as you can only run one raid per character per week.

So far, it seems each encounter drops 3 Spoils of War. This means you’re looking at around 20 full Raid runs to be able to purchase one of these Exotics.

Planetary Resources

Spinmetal Leaves planetary resource Destiny 2Planetary resources are not hard to find. If you put the right Ghost mod, you can go right ahead and farm them. That said, most of these weapons require 100 or more resources, which could take a while to physically collect.

The other alternative is to purchase them from Spider, an NPC located in the Tangled Shore, in exchange for glimmer.

Glimmer

Glimmer Destiny 2Glimmer shouldn’t need an introduction, as it’s one of the most basic currencies in the game. Virtually everything in the game rewards glimmer, so as long as you play the game, you will earn glimmer. That said, the requirements here are steep (100,000+ glimmer per weapon).

If you’re struggling, Spider can also be a good alternative to buy some glimmer in exchange for other materials.

The Last Word

It is undeniable that way too many Exotic quests were removed from the game and put into the DCV. Taking into account how brilliant some of them were, it is truly a shame they were replaced by a mere vendor (namely, the exotic quests for The Whisper of the Worm and Outbreak Perfected, by far the best Exotic quests ever created by Bungie).

If you have very limited resources and can only chase 1 or 2 of the impacted weapons, I would recommend either Eriana’s Vow if you’re in need of an excellent PVE weapon or Ace of Spades if you’re interested in one of the best PVP weapons in the game.

What weapon will you buy first?

Difficulties

Level 31
Light 240

Return to the Chamber of Night and steal a shard of the crystal that once held Crota's soul.

― In-game description

Lost to Light is a story mission in Destiny: The Taken King. It takes place in Ocean of Storms, Moon and is the fifth mission in the questThe Taken King.

Alternate Ending[]

This mission has an alternate ending if played on the Heroic difficulty. If the fireteam makes it to the third locked door without all members dying, causing them to restart at the last checkpoint, the door to the Dusk Warren will be open. The fireteam can then go up to Taniks' ketch.[1]

A ten-minute timer will start. The mission ends either when the timer is up or all Taken, including Driviks, the Chosen, are killed. If all enemies are killed before the timer is up, the fireteam members will obtain the exoticsniper rifleBlack Spindle and the legendary jumpship"Vienna Singer".[1]

Initially, the alternate ending was only available when played as the Daily Heroic Story Mission. In Update 2.3.0, the alternate ending was made available at any time when choosing the Heroic difficulty.

Objectives[]

  • Find the Chamber of Night
  • Steal the Crystal
  • Escape the Hellmouth
  • Explore the Ketch (alternate ending)
  • Kill the Taken (alternate ending)

Transcript[]

{Cinematic}

A drawing of Crota forms on the screen and is quickly surrounded by another drawing of his father, Oryx. His sword is illustrated below them.

  • ERIS: It began with Crota. But Crota was only a servant of his father, sent to extinguish the last of the Light.

The illustration withdraws and creates another, more detailed illustration of Crota.

  • ERIS: The great battle fought for the soul of our world ended in slaughter.

Three lines point towards the direction of Crota, each with a basic design of a ship, signifying the fall of Crota at the hands of six Guardians.

Crota's image fades and briefly transforms into the symbol of Oryx, then to an image of his head.

  • ERIS: And we invited the wrath of Oryx, destroyer of Light, taker of will. Only Ascendant Hive move between Ruptures.

Oryx's portrait disappears and is replaced with a drawing of a rupture.

  • ERIS: To reach Oryx, you must walk in the dying footsteps of his son.

The drawing disappears and the screen fades to black.

  • ERIS: You must become Ascendant.

{Gameplay}

  • ERIS: Hold fast to Toland's journal. It saw me through my time in the dark.
  • CAYDE-6: Hold fast to your gun, Guardian. You're headed back to the chamber where they held Crota's soul.

The Guardian heads to The World's Grave.

  • CAYDE-6: Alright, here's what needs to happen: we have to steal a chunk of Hive crystal that's still got a trace of Crota's soul so you can pass through an interdimensional portal on the Dreadnaught and kill Oryx. I leave anything out, Eris?
  • ERIS: It must be done before Oryx turns his scrying eye to this realm.
  • CAYDE: Good luck, Guardian.

The Guardian continues to the Chamber of Night.

  • GHOST: Toland's journal contains an impressive amount of data. I should probably read it. (pause) Done. Some of this stuff is fascinating!

The Ghost plays an excerpt for the Guardian:

  • TOLAND: The Dreadnaught shields the Hive from the Traveler's Light. Were we to pass through its deepest layers, our Light would be as a dying sun.
  • GHOST: I don't think Toland was much fun at parties.

The Guardian comes across Thrall feeding on piles of bones.

  • ERIS: If the Thrall still feed, Crota's essence must endure.

If the Ghost scans one of the piles of bones:

  • GHOST: I've always wondered what chewed through these bones. There's no microbial life here capable of decomposing organic matter. I guess the Thrall are the closest thing the Moon has to flesh-eating bacteria.

The Guardian continues and finds a large stone. If the Ghost scans it:

  • GHOST: Let me see if Toland's journal has anything.
  • TOLAND: These stones... always in their combat arenas. Do they have a strengthening function? Or are they mere legacy of a forgotten time and realm? The Hive never stopped honing their strength. They have missed the point of being dead. (laughs) I've heard it said that that which does not kill you makes you stronger, but what does this mean in the face of immortality?

The Guardian reaches the ritual site where the Hive previously tried to waken Crota's soul. A few pieces of the crystal sit in the middle of the cave. As the Guardian approaches, Baxx, the Gravekeeper appears from behind the cave walls and attacks the Guardian. The Guardian nearly kills Baxx, but Baxx is taken by Oryx.

  • GHOST: It's gone. I think Oryx just took an Ogre!
  • ERIS: Not even Oryx can control an Ogre unless it's Taken. Now quickly, find me a shard of that crystal!

The Guardian cuts a large chunk from the pile of crystals and takes it.

  • GHOST: We've got it.
  • ERIS: I knew it could be done. And does it still hold the whisper of Crota's soul?
  • GHOST: According to my analysis, it's empty.
  • ERIS: No matter. Return to me, Guardian, and we will destroy...

The comms signal becomes staticky and cuts in and out.

  • CAYDE: Guardian, we're losing you. Guardian can you hear...
  • GHOST: Eris? Cayde? I think we've lost them. Something's blocking our signal and our transmat.

A screeching howl is heard, and fog materializes within the cave. It quickly takes the shape of Oryx.

  • ORYX: Infection! Your Light dies here!

Taken appear in the room, including Baxx, Hand of Oryx.

  • GHOST: There's too many of them! Run!

If the Guardian stays the Ghost will repeat these lines at random:

  • GHOST: I can keep reviving you, but maybe we should start running!
  • GHOST: Eris survived; her Ghost didn't! Can we get out of here!?
  • GHOST: If we don't go now, we'll never get the crystal out of here!
  • GHOST: Can we please leave now?
  • GHOST: We'd better get to the surface!

The Guardian runs back the way they came. The entire area is filled with Taken.

  • GHOST: Eris, Cayde, can you hear us!? Still no connection. This must be how the Hive trapped Eris.

The Guardian finds a group of Taken guarding the door to The World's Grave, which now has a lock on it.

  • GHOST: The Taken have locked us in. Let me check it out.

The Ghost investigates the lock on the door.

  • GHOST: Doors used to be so simple. I'll search the journal.
  • TOLAND: It has long been my belief that the binds which hold the gravest Hive terrors could be lifted by releasing the energy stored within their Tomb Husks.

The Guardian finds a Tomb Husk nearby and picks it up.

The Guardian takes the Husk to the door. The lock disintegrates and the door opens.

  • GHOST: Remind me to make copies of this journal.

The Guardian continues until they reach another locked door guarded by Taken.

  • GHOST: They've warded it with two locks this time.

The Guardian finds both Tomb Husks and brings them to the door, which unlocks. The Guardian continues toward the Temple of Crota.

  • ERIS: We're going to lose him/her... just like Eriana.
  • GHOST: That's Eris. The connection is getting stronger.

A Tomb Husk sits outside of the next room. If the Guardian picks it up before continuing:

  • GHOST: Better to have a Tomb Husk and not need it than to need a Tomb Husk and not have it.

The Guardian approaches the next locked door guarded by Taken, which has three locks on it.

  • GHOST: Three locks. Well, you can't say they aren't trying.

If the Guardian approaches the other door in the room:

  • GHOST: The Fallen left their dirty fingerprints all over this door. What were they doing here? We just missed them.

The Guardian locates all three Tomb Husks and unlocks the door. It opens, and the Guardian continues.

  • ERIS: Guardian? Get out of that pit! We must have that crystal or we'll never reach Oryx!

The Guardian exits the Temple to the surface of the Moon.

  • CAYDE: Guardian, is that you?
  • GHOST: We made it out!
  • ERIS: Then the Taken King will fall. Bring me his dead son's crystal.
  • CAYDE: That's how Eris says she appreciates your sacrifice. Glad you're still alive.

{Mission Ends}

Alternate Ending[]

If, instead of continuing through the third locked door, the Guardian heads towards the Dusk Warren:

  • GHOST: Strange. I'm picking up a Fallen distress signal.

The Guardian boards the ketch.

  • VARIKS, THE LOYAL: Guardian, this is Variks. Detected signal. Detected you. Ketch out of Fallen hands. Watch your back.

The Guardian kills all the Taken in the ship and makes it to the end. The Guardian finds Driviks, the Chosen and kills him.

  • VARIKS: Taken will not rest. Will claim every house. Consume every banner. You must stand, Guardian, yes? Or all shall fall.

TOP 5 Exotics To Buy From The Tower - Monument to Lost Light Destiny 2

In Destiny 2: Beyond Light, Bungie removed a good chunk of the game in favor of freeing up space and adding new stuff. As a result of all that content leaving the game, several old Exotic quests are now completely gone. But their Exotics are still in the game.

To get these older Exotics, you’ll need to buy them from the Exotic Archive (Monument to Lost Lights) kiosk in the Tower — you’ll find it right next to the Vault, between Banshee-44 and Lord Shaxx. Different Exotics have different costs. In this guide, we’ll tell you how to get each currency and how much each Exotic costs.

Exotic Archive currencies

Different items require different currencies in the Monument to Lost Lights kiosk. Here’s where each of them come from if you’re new or need a refresher:

Glimmer

Glimmer is the money of the Destiny universe. It comes from everywhere, including dismantling weapons and shaders, or just killing enemies. If you’re low on Glimmer, you can go to Spider in the Tangled Shore and trade other resources to fill yourself back up.

Legendary Shards

Legendary Shards are Destiny’s secondary currency. You’ll get these whenever you dismantle a purple piece of gear or a purple shader. You’ll likely start out with only a handful of these, but you’ll eventually have more than you know what to do with.

Planetary materials

There are several different planetary materials you’ll need to get some of these older Exotics. You can collect these on various different planets — each is unique and only comes from one location — by picking them up off the ground, from inside chests, completing certain planetary bounties, or running patrols. You can use the Combo Detector Ghost mod to find both chests and planetary materials easier.

You can trade other resources for certain planetary materials by visiting Spider in the Tangled Shore.

Here’s the full list of planetary mats and their associated planet:

  • Mircophasic Datalattice - Nessus
  • Dusklight Shard - The EDZ
  • Helium Filaments - The Moon
  • Baryon Bough - The Dreaming City
  • Glacial Starwort - Europa
  • Spinmetal Leaves - The Cosmodrome
  • Etheric Spiral - The Tangled Shore

Enhancement Prism

Enhancement Prisms are the step between the fairly common Enhancement Cores and the very rare Ascendant Shards. You can get these Enhancement Prisms by buying them from Banshee-44, buying them through The Spider, or completing activities like the Nightfall: The Ordeal on harder difficulties.

Ascendant Shard

Ascendant Shards are rare and expensive in Destiny 2. You can buy them from Banshee-44 or you can farm them by going Flawless in Trials of Osiris over the weekend or completing the Nightfall: The Ordeal on Master or Grandmaster difficulties.

Exotic Cipher

The Exotic Cipher is a super rare material and you can only have one in your inventory at a time. You can get one from the season pass each season or complete a special quest from the Exotic merchant Xur each weekend. You’ll need one of these whenever you want to buy a new Exotic from the Memorial.

Spoils of Conquest

You’ll only need Spoils of Conquest if you want to buy an Exotic that used to come from an old raid. You’ll need a lot of Spoils of Conquest if you want some of the raid Exotics, but you can farm for as many Spoils as you want. The only bad news is these only come from the raids still in the game.

To get Spoils of Conquest, run through the Deep Stone Crypt raid and collect the two “secret chests.” You can also repeat encounters you’ve already completed that week for extra Spoils of Conquest. Older raids like Last Wish and Garden of Salvation also give some Spoils of Conquest.

You can spend this currency at the Exotic Archive to get old Exotics or use them at the final chest in the Deep Stone Crypt raid to buy additional loot.

Legacy Gear

The Legacy gear section includes old Legendary weapons, most of which are already sunset — meaning they won’t be very useful to you. These items all require Glimmer, Legendary Shards, Enhancement Prisms, and Ascendant Shards.

We don’t recommend you buy any of these unless you’re awash with materials and looking to fill out your Collection.

Light to destiny lost

Destiny: The Taken King – Lost to Light Story Mission

In this feature, we will tell you how to beat the Lost to Light story mission in Destiny: The Taken King. Your primary objective is to steal a piece of crystal housing Crota’s soul at the request of Eris Morn. This means returning to familiar territory on the Moon.

In the previous mission, Enemy of My Enemy, you discovered Ascendant Hive are the only beings that can enter the Rupture portals. The idea here is to use the sliver of Crota’s soul to become Ascendant, or at the very least fake it the whole way.

Lost to Light begins on the Moon near the Circle of Bones. From here, you must enter the Chamber of Night and grab the crystal. Start by killing Hive and moving to the waypoint on the screen. If you completed The Dark Below, you know this place well.

Keep pushing onward while battling Hive and a Wizard while en route. When you reach the Chamber of Night, multiple Thrall will appear and you should kill these critters without hesitation. After doing this, you will see an area filled with bones.

It’s here where you battle an ogre named Baxx, the Gravekeeper. Deplete its health enough and Oryx will appear and cause Baxx to vanish, giving you a chance to grab the crystal in the middle of this location. Easy, right?

It seems like the mission is about to end, but things are just picking up. Baxx returns as a member of the Taken, and is now referred to as Oryx’s Hand. On top of that, he brought some buddies. Don’t even bother fighting back. Turn around and run the heck out of there.

Do whatever it takes to avoid dying at the hands of the Hellmouth; oh, and don’t look behind you! Continue running and you’ll pass through the World’s Grave. When you get there the Taken will lock the door leading out. In order to unlock this door you must pick up a floating black orb (a Relic) called the Tomb Husk and insert it into the area near the door. You’ll find the Tomb Husk on the top platform at the front of this room. You may want to thin enemy ranks before doing this, since you cannot shoot and carry the orb at the same time.

With the door unlocked, dash into the next room and prepare to mix it up with Acolytes and Taken Knights. There’s another locked door to bypass, but now you need two Relics to unlock it. You’ll find the first on a platform across from the door, all the way on the other side of this area. The second, meanwhile, is inside a short passage on the lower level, on the right.

Go through the door into the Temple of Crota, which contains the final locked door. Surprise! It requires three Relics! Look for the first orb to your immediate left. The second rests on a platform in the middle of this room. Finally, the third orb is behind a barricade to the right of the locked door. This is obviously much easier if you eliminate the Taken Captains.

With the door now open, run up the steps into the final area and escape. The mission ends as soon as you go outside.
