Acton Memorial Library

The Acton Memorial Library has been serving the Acton community for over years. The busy library circulates over , items per year in addition to offering programming for all ages and meeting space for local groups. It has a collection of , items including books, audiobooks, DVDs, CDs, e-resources, periodicals, foreign language materials, and some non-traditional items such as Wi-Fi hotspots, telescopes, and a microscope.

Acton Memorial Library Mayer Upper Level East

The West Acton Citizens' Library acts as a branch of the Acton Memorial Library.

The Massachusetts Historical Commission says, "The Citizens' Library, one of the oldest [existing] buildings on Windsor Avenue, was most likely built, in the s by Phineas Wetherbee, who by , resided there and lived at this address until Mr. Wetherbee, a farmer who served as a town selectman from to , was a benefactor of the Citizens' Library. In , Phineas Wetherbee met with 39 others at the West Acton railroad depot (since demolished) to form a Citizens' Library." 

The group initially opened the library room in the Grand Army Hall (later demolished) then moved to the Universalist Church on Central Street. Mr. Wetherbee died and bequeathed his house at 21 Windsor to the library. In , after the estate was settled, the Citizens' Library moved to the Wetherbee house. The library remains in this location.

Acton Memorial Library

The Acton Memorial Library has been serving the Acton community for over 128 years. The busy library circulates over 500,000 items per year in addition to offering programming for all ages and meeting space for local groups. It has a collection of 170,000 items including books, audiobooks, DVDs, CDs, e-resources, periodicals, foreign language materials, and some non-traditional items such as Wi-Fi hotspots, telescopes, and a microscope.

Sign Up For Fall Storytimes

Sign-ups for Under Two Storytime and Tremendous Twos Storytime will begin Aug. Under Two Storytime (one to 23 months) takes place on Tuesdays at a.m. and Tremendous Twos Storytime (24 to 36 months) takes place on Tuesdays at 11 a.m. Storytimes run from Sept. 11 to Oct. Registration is required. Sign up in the Children&#x;s Department or call , option 4. Preference is given to Acton residents.

Library Lends More Thank Books

In addition to lending books, the Acton Memorial Library also lends telescopes, microscopes, museum passes, hotspots, birding kits and more. For information, visit http://actonmemoriallibrary.org or come in and talk to a librarians.

Sign Up For Library Text Messaging

Acton Memorial Library and the Minuteman Library Network offers a text messaging service named Shoutbomb. Library borrowers can sign up for the service by texting the word signup to the phone number With Shoutbomb text messaging service, patrons can use their mobile phone to:

&#x; Receive text notices about holds available for pickup, courtesy renewal reminders and overdue items

&#x; Send a text to renew items or check a fine balance

&#x; Get reminders about account status before hitting fine limits or expiration dates

Library Mobile App Now Available

The Minuteman Library Network has a mobile app that allows library users to access the library from a mobile device. Use the app to search the Minuteman Catalog, renew items, place and manage holds and access digital content. Registered users can store a digital library card in the app, circumventing the need to carry their library card.

New York Time Digital Access&#x;

Acton Memorial Library and the Minuteman Library Network now offer all Minuteman card holders free access to the New York Times website and mobile app. The website includes full access to the current New York Times and articles back to Chinese and Spanish editions are also available. Summer Library Hours

Summer hours began June 24, and are Monday through Thursday 9 a.m p.m., Friday 9 a.m p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m p.m. The library is closed on Sundays during the summer.
